Handsome, charismatic William Stark is a serial killer terrorizing the women of Atlanta, but that’s what he does for fun. He makes his money as an assassin for a covert group that uses advanced nano-technology enabling Stark to utilize clueless innocents to do his job for him. The technology allows Stark’s sociopathic consciousness to be supplanted into a host body, someone—a spouse, brother, business associate—with easy access to the Stark's target, and then restore the host's original consciousness after the target's dead. Business is great until mishaps leave Stark’s mind trapped in the bodies of two hosts. One develops a conscience while the other goes insane, and all three are determined to destroy the others. When one of Stark’s copies approaches Atlanta PD Detective Scott Hayes with an improbable tale about a secret group, assassinations, and transferring consciousnesses, Hayes is tempted to bundle him up in a straight jacket, until the man tells him details about the brutal murders only the killer can know and that the next victim is the detective's wife. Hayes must accept the help of a serial killer if he wants to save his wife. Three of a Kind is a page-turning, technical and psychological thriller from the point of view of both the protagonist and the antagonist, giving the reader a look into the consciousness of a focused detective as well the twisted sociopath he pursues.
