Steven Mather spent over twenty-one years as a computer scientist, always on the cutting edge of the latest advances in information technology. He earned his degree in computer science in 1984 and worked primarily as a consultant in a variety of industries across the nation: communications, banking, insurance, medicine, and the Department of Defense. He has an eclectic spectrum of hobbies and interests. He still keeps his eyes on the IT industry. Fascinated by emerging technologies that affect our lives as man and machine become increasingly integrated, he stays up to date on technological advances and the possible directions they may go. These same innovations and possibilities provide him with many ideas for fiction. In 2004 he became disabled and after several years realized he needed something to do with his life and as a fanatical reader he always wanted to write, so he gave it a try.

Three of a Kind, a thriller |
|
NOTE: Three of a Kind will not be published as expected on 8/28/08. The contract with the publisher was cancelled due to extraneous circumstances. The publication date will be delayed. Handsome, charismatic William Stark is a serial killer terrorizing the women of Atlanta, but that’s what he does for fun. He makes his money as an assassin for a covert group that uses advanced nano-technology enabling Stark to utilize clueless innocents to do his job for him. The technology allows Stark’s sociopathic consciousness to be supplanted into a host body, someone—a spouse, brother, business associate—with easy access to the Stark's target, and then restore the host's original consciousness after the target's dead. Business is great until mishaps leave Stark’s mind trapped in the bodies of two hosts. One develops a conscience while the other goes insane, and all three are determined to destroy the others. I have a dream. I'd like to develop, write, and publish a novel under a collaborative effort of anyone who wants to participate. The novel will be will be written by us and most likely will be a thriller. Think about it, 10, 100, maybe even 1,000 people collaborating on the complete development of a fiction novel, and actually having it published. This could be one of the most entertaining writing experiences you'll ever be a part of. Does this sound interesting, fun, and maybe even crazy? I think so. I'll be developing the infrastructure required to allow as many people who choose to participate to develop collaboratively a novel from scratch to completion. I'm calling it the iNovel experiment and the menu link at the top will take you to the information page. The iNovel experiment is in its infancy, and you'll need to be patient while I put together the pieces we'll need to pull it off, but if you’re interested check out the iNovel page. |

It’s August 2008, and as a new author who recently had an existing contract to have my first novel published, Three of a Kind, I entered the backend portion of being an author in today’s market. I signed with a small, independent publisher with the full knowledge that the marketing efforts would be 99% my responsibility, both in sweat and dollars. Presented with the arduous chore of self-promotion, I began to build a marketing plan, examine what is involved in distribution, and came to a shocking discovery; the future of the traditional publishing model is about to undergo a fundamental change. After countless hours of research into the publishing and marketing side of the industry, a careful look at my publisher, and only six weeks away from my publishing date, I cancelled my contract. I concluded that if I was solely responsible for the marketing, and by appearance, much of the distribution, there were far better ways to approach my debut. Additionally, what I realized about the future of publishing led me to formulate a different approach. My research fueled an in-depth study available for FREE from my website by clicking here, The Future of Publishing, or going to the articles section of my publications. You must have Adobe PDF Reader Version 8 or above installed on your computer to view the study. |

My goal for this web site is obviously for marketing of my works however, I do have a secondary desire. I have always been the type of person who likes to see others succeed at entrepreneurial or challenging ventures. Who do I try to help? As an aspiring author myself, my first target to assist was others like me. I was offered a contract to publish my debut novel Three of a Kind in November of 2007 and finally accepted in January of 2008. My publisher was a small, independent organization just starting up with a stable of about six authors and fourteen titles. I knew going in that the marketing efforts and costs would primarily be my responsibilities, which I was fine with because I have a business background and marketing excites me. All that I required was basic ideas, outlets, and contact information. |
